Information technology and Russian regions: The project “Virtual history” launched in Ulyanovsk

June 6, 2013 in the Memorial Quarter of the Museum Reserve “Homeland of V. I. Lenin” in Ulyanovsk, took place a presentation of the project “Virtual History” based on the technology of “augmented reality” that allows displaying on the screens of smart phones the appearance of cities from the historical retrospective. 

Ulyanovsk is a city with a rich historical and cultural heritage. With the launch of the project “Virtual History” everyone will be able to get acquainted with the appearance of the city from the historical perspective simple and convenient way. Tourists and residents of Ulyanovsk using downloaded to the smart phone apps and mobile Internet will be able to see on the screens of their devices how looked like historical sites many years ago. To view historic images will be available not only to the existing facilities, but also buildings that are no longer on the map. The cultural heritage sites will also have special signs with QR-code, which when reading a page opens with a detailed description of the monument of architecture.

The project “Virtual History” is all the All-Russian. At the moment it is launched in nine cities: Moscow, Kaliningrad, Vladivostok, Tomsk, Kurgan, Moscow, Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod, and Irkutsk.
