Electronic resources: Wikipedia has launched service featuring articles based on reader location

The electronic encyclopedia Wikipedia has launched service Nearby, featuring articles on interesting sites taking into account the location of the reader, says the web site of mobile division of the organization Wikimedia Foundation, managing the resource.

The Nearby Service will display on the device articles about objects and places, which are located around the user of Wikipedia. The organizers of the electronic encyclopedia expect that the opportunity to learn about the museum or the nearby park as well as quickly to illustrate an article will attract new users and editors in the project. It is noted that before the application has been done a lot for geo associating of million articles about parks, museums, historic sites, theaters, cafes and religious buildings.

At the moment the service is not translated into Russian.
