31 July 2013

July 30, 2013 in the interior exposition “Palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. Historical and art reconstruction” in Kolomenskoye is opening the exhibition project “Two icons of Theotokos of royal masters”.

The display of icons of the XVII century “Nativity of the Virgin” and the “Feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin” in the queen mansions, at the women’s half of the palace, - is the first presentation of them to visitors of the museum.

In 2012, they were transferred to the department of tempera painting restoration of the Orthodox St. Tikhon Humanitarian University. The disclosure of monuments was performed by students of the 5th year in a diploma. It was possible to determine the time of writing the monuments - the last third of the XVII century, and the place of creation - icon-painting workshop of the Kremlin Armory. This period coincides with the time of construction and decoration of the wooden palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich in Kolomenskoye, which were decorated and painted with “discord colors” by the best painters and artists of the Armory.

Distinctive features of the two works exhibited at the display is the use of painters of the XVII century as a model of western European art prints with illustrations of events of the New Testament.
