
Society and book culture: The South Korean city of Incheon is selected as the World Book Capital 2015
UNESCO has selected the next “World Book Capital” – this title in 2015 will belong to the South Korean city of Incheon.
The organization noted the high level of the program of the South Korean city to promote a reading culture among young people and vulnerable groups.
The organizing committee of UNESCO adopted the decision on choosing the next book capital on July 16, having considered the program of measures submitted by city-applicants.
Incheon has become the 15th World Book Capital. In 2013, this title belongs to Bangkok (Thailand), and in 2014 the book capital will be the Nigerian Port Harcourt. Earlier, the capitals of the book were Madrid (Spain), Alexandria (Egypt), New Delhi (India), Antwerp (Belgium), Montreal (Canada), Turin (Italy), Bogota (Colombia), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Beirut (Lebanon), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Yerevan (Armenia).
