The "Runivers" Historical Library released "Mapping" project allowing a free access to the old atlases and maps collection.

"Old maps give an idea about the development of science, the technologies and engineering, the fine arts, the maps themselves are the artworks, while the history of cartography is an important part of the history of human civilization, and the history of human culture", - stated the editor of the library’s website Nikita Maximov.

About 4 thousand atlases and maps became available on the library’s website within this project. Among them, for example, the first historical atlas in Russia, assembled on the basis of the "History of the Russian State" by Nikolai Karamzin. The colorful historical plans of St. Petersburg from 1714 to 1839 are published in high quality as well. Almost a half of the maps are of the military origin.

As part of the "Mapping" project a wide range of previously unreleased vintage card will be gradually added on the library website.
