Russian regions: Meeting of representatives of regional branches of the Russian Geographical Society in Irkutsk

Meeting of representatives of the Siberian and Far Eastern regional offices of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) will be held on July 26, 2013 in Irkutsk.

The meeting will bring together leaders and representatives of 21 regional branches of the Russian Geographical Society. Its main objective - information reports on plans and executive management, exchange of experience, identification and discussion of problems. In addition, the meeting will feature presentations that will tell about the activities of the regional offices”, - said the RGS.

Meeting of representatives of the Siberian and Far Eastern branches of the society will be held at the Irkutsk Regional Museum. A significant event of the gathering will be the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Government of the Irkutsk Region and the Russian Geographical Society.

The Russian Geographical Society was founded on August 18, 1845 by the decree of Emperor Nicholas I. At present, the all-Russian public organization “Russian geographical society” includes 81 regional offices across Russia. The headquarters of the RGS is located in Saint-Petersburg. The largest regional offices are the Seaside and the Moscow. In 2009 the president of the RGS was Sergei Shoigu, and the head of the board of trustees - Vladimir Putin.
