International cooperation: Historians from Russia and Germany signed an agreement on cooperation in the study of the World War I

July 1, the Institute of the General History of the Russian Academy of Science and the Institute of Contemporary History Munich-Berlin signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of study of the history of the World War I. The agreement was reached during the working visit to Berlin of the chairman of the State Duma Sergei Naryshkin. The speaker met with leaders and representatives of the historical-educational and social organizations of the FRG in the German-Russian Museum Berlin-Karlshorst.

In connection with the upcoming in 2014 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the World War I, the Institutes in years 2014-2015 plan to implement a joint research project “The World War I in the cultural memory of Russians and Germans”. There will be created a working group to prepare and conduct the related activities associated with the implementation of the project. From the Russian side the sign under the document of intent was put by the Director IVI RAS the Academician Chubarian.

In his speech, Sergei Naryshkin noted that representatives of the museum Berlin-Karlshorst appealed to him as the chairman of the Russian Historical Society with request to join the Society. The speaker expressed to the initiative his full support.

Naryshkin also granted to the museum the so called Quart block – four stamps, issued in 1945 in honor of the victory over fascism. They had a special stamp after the Victory Day in Moscow in June.
