Museums: The exhibition of Tsar Balls opened at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve
The exhibition “The Great Ball” which features exhibits telling of the 300-yearhistory of Russian balls, opened on July 28 at the Catherine Hall of the Grand Palace in Tsaritsyno.
The main section of the exhibition is “Tsar Balls”. It features official and ceremonial celebrations of the XIX - early XX century: the first dances and performances at the Bolshoi Theater timed to mark the coronation of two Russian emperors - Alexander II and Nicholas II, as well as the famous costume party in 1903 in the Winter Palace, where all the guests were in dresses of the era of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich”.
Another part of the exhibition entitled “Oh, the hour of shiny balls…” you can see dresses, shoes, fans, handbags and other ballroom accessories, as well as musical instruments and music notes from personal collections of members of the Imperial House of Romanov.
The exhibition is complemented with the section “The Ball of the scene on the stage. The Bolshoi Theatre. The XX century”. It includes paintings and graphic designs of costumes, scenery and theatrical costumes, including a dress designed by Pierre Cardin for Maya Plisetskaya.
In total, at the exhibition, which will run until October 13, you can see nearly 500 artifacts related to the culture of balls in Russia.
