International events: Exhibition “Denmark and the Imperial Russia” in Denmark

30 August 2013

The exhibition “Denmark and the Imperial Russia” opens on August 30, 2013 in the National Historical Museum in the Frederiksberg Castle (Denmark).

The organizers of the exhibition are the National Historical Museum in the Frederiksberg Castle, the Moscow Kremlin Museums.

The Moscow Kremlin Museums take part in the exhibition in the National Historical Museum in the Frederiksberg Castle dedicated to the history of relations between the two great powers – Russia and Denmark during three centuries - from 1600 to 1900.

Officially, the Russian-Danish relations were formalized in 1493 by signing of an agreement “on friendship and eternal piece”. Then both countries exchanged embassies, with which was the beginning of the diplomatic relations, almost not terminated for more than 500 years.

The exposition includes items from leading museums in Denmark and Russia, which tell about the political and cultural ties between the two countries.

The exhibition features unique monuments of Danish masters associated with such historical figures as Peter I and Catherine II. A separate section of the exhibition is devoted to the Danish artists and craftsmen who worked in Russia, particularly in Saint-Petersburg since its founding until 1917.

The exhibition tells of the court life of the Empress Maria Feodorovna nee Danish Princess Dagmar, who became the wife of Russian Emperor Alexander III.
