Russian regions: Peterhof celebrates 290 years
August 15, Old Style 1723 took place the official opening of the summer country residence of Peterhof. On this day, Peter I gave a luxurious reception for guests, many of whom were foreign diplomats.
In 1918, the imperial palaces have become museums. Today, the former imperial residence - one of the most visited museums in Russia. The Museum Reserve combines four major individual complexes: Peterhof, Oranienbaum, Strelna and Ropsha.
The State Peterhof Museum Reserve every season opens for visitors new palaces, museums and expositions, at the same time learning innovative ways to present their collections.
In 1990, Peterhof became part of UNESCO world heritage sites. In 1996 by the Decree of the President of Russia the State Peterhof Museum Reserve is entered in the list of the most valuable monuments of Russian cultural history. In 2008, it became the winner of the “Seven Wonders of Russia”.
In 2010-2011 in Peterhof the restoration was completed and the opening of Farm Palace and Museum “Imperial Telegraph Station” in Alexandria, the museum “The church body of the Grand Palace” at Peterhof, the Grand Chinese Palace (Menshikov) Palace in Oranienbaum were restored. In the Lower Park of Peterhof was implemented an innovative project “Samson online”, organized by the Free Zone Wi-Fi. In 2013, the Museum of the fountain case was opened.
