Memory of the World: Military-historical festival “Battle of Narva” in Estonia

From August 9 to 11, 2013 in the Narva Museum (Narva, Estonia) is held the Military-historical festival “The battle of Narva”.

The most important event of the summer is held in the courtyard of the Narva Castle with military-historical clubs from different countries. For three days in a military camp in a tent, spread out the courtyard of the castle, gathered warriors dressed in uniforms of the time of Peter I and Charles XII, to re-run the battle in 1704, one of the historic battles of the Great Northern War between Russia and Sweden. 

In addition to colorful uniforms, guns, muskets and military events of the 300-year-old visitors can see village of the locals, which is familiarizing with the life of the peasants of the time and the Crafts Fair. In the northern courtyard you can participate in master classes.

August 9 at the Art Gallery of the Narva Museum opened an exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Lavretsovs’ museum.

The Narva merchant Sergei Lavretsov and his wife started collecting in the late XIX century. By the early XX century, the number of items has increased so much that there was the intention to establish a museum. Sergei Lavretsov bequeathed his house “the city museum by Sergei Antonovich and Glafira Alexandrovna Lavretsova”. In addition, he bequeathed 25.000 rubles for its holding. Besides, by agreement of the marries couple the paintings which were in the house of paintings, as well as works of art and other objects of artistic value, after the death of Glafira Lavretsovs became the property of the museum. August 9, 1913 in Narva took place the opening of the museum.
