History of Russia: The exhibition “Poster of the Soviet East. 1918-1940” to be open in Moscow

6 August 2013

September 6, 2013 the Mardjani Foundation and the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia (Moscow) open the exhibition “Poster of the Soviet East. 1918-1940” dedicated to the history of the political propaganda in the Soviet East.

The exhibition is dedicated to the historical fate, political propaganda and the Soviet East. Bright, imaginative posters of the Volga region, Central Asia and the Caucasus from the collection of the Mardjani Foundation and the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia hit the Russian avant-garde design decisions and huge power of influence. These posters are unfamiliar, and sometimes not at all known to the general public. Occurred in the period between the two world wars, in our time, these posters have become a valuable historical document, describing the period of rapid social and cultural fracture.

The textbook fame was included in enormous editions of the classics of this art form - Dmitry Moor, Viktor Deni, Nicholas Kohout, Alexander Rodchenko, Kukryniksy. However, no less interesting are posters of artists of the Soviet East, printed “on the ground”. The posters created for the people of Central Asia, the Caucasus and the Volga region had a distinctive style.

For the exhibition it was prepared a catalog album, which consisted of more than 250 posters from the collections of the State Museum of Contemporary History of Russia and the Mardjani Foundation.
