Peoples of Russia: The course “Peoples and culture of Russia” for school children to be developed

The course “Peoples and culture of Russia” for school children was proposed by the chairman of State Duma of Russia, the head of the Russian Historical Society Sergei Naryshkin. He said this at the enlarged meeting of the Bureau of Historical and Philological Sciences of the RAS.

The participants of the meeting discussed the outcome of the working group on the concept of a new training complex on the country’s history.

“The working group has received a lot of proposals relating to additional materials in respect of the peoples and cultures of Russia, - said the speaker of the lower house of the Russian parliament. - But we must understand that textbooks can not consider in its entirety the diversity of the historical heritage of the 83 subjects of the Russian Federation and more than 180 large and small nations living on its territory”.

Let us remind that the proposal to develop common history textbooks for Russian high school, written in a good Russian language and no internal contradictions and ambiguities, was issued in February 2013, by President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

September 26, Vladimir Putin sends greetings to the delegates and guests of the V Congress of Finno -Ugric peoples, which opened in Saransk. “We give priority to the problems of preserving identity and the identity of every nation, strengthening inter-ethnic accord and harmony”, - said in greeting. Therefore, according to Putin, there will be necessarily developed “programs to support national languages, schools, cultural and educational centers, will be implemented large-scale public education, inter-regional and international projects”.

Speaking earlier at a meeting of international discussion club “Valdai”, the President stressed that the acquisition and consolidation of national identity is fundamental to Russia. “The extent to which citizens of a country feel a strong nation, as far as they are rooted in its history, values, united to their common goal, the responsibility - in this sense, the question of gaining and strengthening national identity is really fundamental for Russia”, - convinced the head of state.
