Russian museums: The project of the new building of the State Tretyakov Gallery presented

The State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow will have a new building. It will be located near the main storage in Lavrushinsky Lane and the facade will face the Kremlin. The Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky, who presented a large-scale project of the President of Russia  Vladimir Putin, has assured that the new building will not disturb the harmony of historic buildings, but will significantly increase the area of ​​the Museum and the State Tretyakov Gallery will actively demonstrate to the public its funds.

The idea of ​​creating around the State Tretyakov Gallery of the real museum of the town dates back to the 30s of the last century, and is now more than ever close to realization. Arts Quarter is to be built by 2018 year.

The project of the museum complex was born one and a half decades. It had to be blend in with the historic building of the Moskva River district. Most controversial has been the appearance of the building, it had to spend even a single facade competition. The architects had to combine neo-Russian style of the famous terracotta-and-white picture of the building with modern solutions.

The new building will be double the size of the Tretyakov Gallery’s square and will allow get the works which for many years have not left their stores.
