Russian culture abroad: The fund to support Russian language and culture established in Finland

September 18, 2013 at the jubilee session of the Parliament of Finland (eduskunta), dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the regular parliament activity in Suomi, was decided to create the country’s fund to support the Russian language and culture.

The creation in Finland of a Fund to support the Russian language and culture emphasizes its attentive and friendly attitude towards Russia. This opinion was expressed by the head of the delegation of the State Duma Sergei Mironov. The delegation was specially invited by the Finnish Parliament on its anniversary meeting where it was decided to establish a fund.

The Fund will be part of another fund – “Culture”, which operates in Finland since the beginning of 2013 under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the country. Its budget of 10 million euro and the revenue will be used for scholarships and funding for youth projects related to the development of the Russian language and culture. The first scholarships will be issued in 2015.
