Internet and Society: The Amount of .рф Domains Has Shown 4.3% Growth Since the Beginning of 2013

According to the director of the of RF National Internet Domain Names Coordination Center (CC RF) Andrei Kolesnikov  the number of .рф domain names in Cyrillic zone has grown by 4.3% since the beginning of 2013.

As Kolesnikov says, for 8 months of 2013 the number of names in the blast zone .рф has increased by 4.3% to 813.4 thousand. The total growth of domain names in the .рф zone has reached 34.13 thousand since the beginning of the year. More than three quarters of the registered in the .рф zone domains have been handed over for use. The majority of domain names of the .rf zone belongs to the individuals, when the legal entities own less than a quarter of accounts. In addition, according to the Coordination Center, in the .рф zone registered tens of thousands of domains foreign brands.

The principal obstacle in .рф domain zone development is a failure of .рф extension use by email services, said Kolesnikov. Kolesnikov forecasts that it will take the postal services a few more years to get to use the Cyrillic domains. However, when the mail clients will start to support the .рф area addresses, the number of names in the area could increase to 20%.

The Coordination Center allowed the .рф domains registration on November 11, 2010. An application for registration could have been submitted by anyone through one of the 20 registrars. If the domain name has not been taken, the user was given the status of its administrator. In the first six hours of open registration more than 200,000 applications were processed that exceeded all expectations.
