World history: Kaliningrad hosted three exhibitions as part of the International conference “The World War I in the history and culture of Russia and Europe”

The Kaliningrad Regional Museum of History and Art and the Institute of World History with the support of the Russian Historical Society and the Russian military historical society on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I organized an international scientific and practical conference “The World War I in the history and culture of Russia and Europe”. It was attended by more than 80 scientists from Belarus, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia and Ukraine.

In Kaliningrad, in the framework of the conference were presented at once three new exhibitions on the history of the World War I. In the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University opened an exhibition of watercolors from the collection of the Military Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineers and Signal Corps in St. Petersburg. Here you can see the portraits of the Knights of St. George Russian Imperial Army during the World War I. The Kaliningrad Regional Historical Museum of Art presents the exhibition “The last war of the Russian Empire” (historical objects and documents from the collections of the leading Russian museums and archives, private collections) and “Belarus in the World War I” (photographs from the collections of the National Museum of History of the Republic of Belarus).

The Kaliningrad region - the only region in modern Russia, where there were battles of the World War I. The exhibition “The last war the Russian Empire” tells about the event, that has changed the world beyond recognition, but the remaining unjustly deprived of attention. Do not we all remember the role which played by Russia in those years. Meanwhile, it was the Russian Empire made ​​the brunt of the war and ensured the victory of his allies. Today it is very important to preserve the historical memory of the heroism of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers.
