World history: Archaeological exhibition, timed to the 95th anniversary of the opening of the complex of monuments “The Omsk stop” in Omsk

October 17, 2013 in Omsk State Museum of Regional History started working the archaeological exhibition to mark the 95th anniversary of the opening of the complex of monuments “The Omsk stop”.

The exhibition is dedicated to one of the most exciting and historically important periods in the history of the peoples of Siberia - Early Iron Age. The submitted on it exhibits show the history of the thousand-year period - from the V century BC to VI century BC.

The first room of the exhibition contains exhibits relating to the most striking early Iron Age cultures of Siberia and Altai – the Pazyryk, the Tagar, the Tashtyk, the Sargatka and the Karymskyi. The Pazyryk culture takes its name from the mounds, located in the valley of Pazyryk in the Altai Mountains. It dates back from the VI-III centuries BC. It is known with unique mounds with “frozen” burials.

The second room of the exhibition contains exhibits related to the archaeological complex “The Omsk stop”. The archaeological collections with the “The Omsk stop” are stored in several museums. In the Museum of Regional History there is more than 6.5 thousand pieces of this complex of monuments. The exhibition shows the different tools made of stone, bone, metal, pottery, jewelry and ritual objects.

The new exhibition is the result of the local history museum of the State Historical Museum (Moscow), the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Fyodor Dostoevsky Omsk State University, the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Omsk State Pedagogical University, the Museum of History and Culture of the peoples of Siberia and the Far East (Novosibirsk, Russia) which provided their collections for the display.
