Information technology and Russian regions: Virtual Interactive tour “Sacred places of the Vologda diocese” presented in Vologda

19 October 2013

To travel through the monasteries and temples of the Vologda region, staying at home, became real. The other day in the regional capital was presented a virtual interactive tour of “Sacred Places of the Vologda diocese”. The presentation of this interesting project was held on October 16 In the Kirillo-Belozerski State Museum-Reserve.

One of the main attractions of a virtual tour is its simplicity and convenience, while at the same time the authors of the project have done a great and difficult job. Now anyone at any time can take a trip through the Vologda shrines. “The goal, set on creating the tour, is to draw attention to the spiritual past, a reminder of the role played by the Orthodox Church in the history of our region”, - said the head of the project, assistant professor of general history and historical subjects of the Vologda State Pedagogical University, Mikhail Tumanov.

The map shows the Kirillo-Belozersky, Ferapontov, Holy Prilutsky and Pavlo-Obnorsky monasteries, temples of Vologda, Cherepovets, Totma and Great Ustiug. Pressing the mouse button on any of the points of the route, the visitor finds them in the middle of events: in front of them there is a beautiful view, both land and a bird’s eye view. The saturation with interactive elements - sound, visual and text can achieve the effect of full presence.

The web site of the Kirillo-Belozerski Museum-Reserve includes a virtual tour in the section “visitor”. In this section you can find another similar project - a tour of the architectural ensemble of Kirillo-Belozersky monastery with the possibility of changing seasons.
