Archives of Russia: The State Film Fund of Russia celebrates its 65th anniversary

October 4, 2013 the State Film Fund of Russia celebrates its 65th anniversary of the founding of the archive.

The State Film Fund of the Russian Federation - the main archive of films of the country, a member of the International Federation of Film Archives.

Its collection is the largest in the world - it holds more than 70 thousand pictures. This was told by the general director of the State Film Fund Nicholas Borodachev at a press conference dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the founding of the archive.

“Today, our collection is the largest film heritage in the world, a world gem. Now the State Film Fund holds more than 70,000 titles, approximately one million 300 thousand rolls”, - said Borodachev.

The collection of the State Film Fund includes various tapes, ranging from silent films of the Lumiere brothers to modern Russian and foreign films. The archives store reference copies of the fund of Russian and Soviet films, there is documentation to the movies, photos, movie posters, and other materials on the history of cinema.

In 1993, by decree of the President of Russia the State Film Fund of Russia is included in the State Code of the most valuable objects of cultural heritage of the country.
