Vladimir Putin held a meeting of the Council for Culture and Art.

The meeting, which took place on October 2, 2013 in the Kremlin, was examining the role the state’s cultural policy plays in reinforcing the country’s unity and the importance of national culture in strengthening Russian identity. Other items on the agenda include establishing the priorities and principles for setting state cultural policy.

The head of state declared that 2014 is the Year of Culture in Russia. It will be a landmark event for our country in terms of raising and bolstering culture’s role in our society’s life.   

“The work of forming the new cultural policy should be organized systematically and comprehensively, it is particularly important to coordinate the efforts of all of this work, clearly divide responsibilities, principles and priorities to find practical expression in the respective programs was properly reflected in the legislation. I ask the Administration of the President to take the full range of development priorities of the state cultural policy under the permanent control”, - said Vladimir Putin. The meeting pointed to the special role of the Council in the form of cultural participation policy, preparation of documents aimed at ensuring equal access to the best examples of art in all regions, to provide the citizens of Russia and compatriots abroad of the objective, documented accurate and comprehensive information about the history of our state.

It was stressed the need to develop a new type of library, which should become centers of intellectual leisure, discussion platforms, springboards for learning and discussion of films, books. Libraries today must also be guided for information, counseling centers. In small towns of Russia will be continued to be the creation of multi-cultural and leisure facilities with modern telecommunication technologies. They will conduct master classes, distance learning and will involve the production of meaningful content and its broadcast.
