Internet and society: ROSSVYAZ to predict a significant increase in the number of subscribers of satellite Internet

28 November 2013

The development of satellite Internet will in the coming years provide access to a network of residents of remote regions of Russia and become one of the most promising directions in the field of communications. This was noted by the deputy head of the Federal Communications Agency (Rossvyaz) Igor Chursin, speaking at the conference "Broadband Russia Forum 2013", dedicated to the development of broadband Internet access.

"This is a new trend, but its prospects are obvious - said Chursin. - Over the past two years the number of users in Russia has reached 4 thousand. The figure is very small, but the dynamics is positive and the growth is very confident". According to him, the widespread use of so-called Ka-band on new satellites entails a significant increase in the number of subscribers of satellite Internet, especially in remote areas where the wired internet is almost impossible to hold.
