Internet and society: The best projects and companies of Runet for 2013 announced in Moscow

The main award of the Russian Internet industry – “Runet Award” – was presented on November 21, 2013 in Moscow. This time the tenth anniversary ceremony was held under the banner of the 20th anniversary Runet, which will be celebrated in April 2014.

Golden statuette in the category “Culture, media and mass communication” were received by the channel “Rain” (with the contribution of the online broadcasting), urban information online channel M24.ru, historic portal “Dilettante” and news site SmartNews.ru.

In the category “State and Society” the prize was awarded to the Fund “Public opinion” for “accurate and timely investigation of the Internet”, a charity project “Dobro.Mail.ru” and the portal to vote for civil petitions “Russian community initiative”.

In the category “Technology and Innovation” the winners became the Moscow’s Department of Information Technology, Mail.ru Group (for the development of “cloud” technologies), the company Softkey, and the project Myapps.com, dedicated to applications for mobile devices.

The best in category “Economy, Business and Investment” are recognized company Uniteller (EFT), the PSB - for excellent service over the Internet, and projects MyCallSystems Runet-ID.

Award winners in the category “Health, Entertainment, and Recreation” became an online community of poets and writers and Authors Products Reviews Proza.ru, VGTRK project of the movie FilmPro and social network “Kiberdruzhina”, whose members are struggling with Internet crimes.

The nomination “Science and Education” was awarded to the project Mail.ru Group “Technopark” for the promotion of technical education, the company “Ashmanov and partners” and the project Zilion.

This year, the organizers set up three special categories: “Safe Runet”, “Start-up - Navigator of the Year” and “Innovation Moscow”.

For successful combating of cybercrime the prize was awarded to the company and the Group-IB InfoWatch, as well as the web site of “Letidor”.

The best projects about startups are recognized online resources “Hopes and Fears”, RusBase and “Myths of startups”. For the promotion of informatization of the capital the award was given to the creators of online atlas “Big City” and the navigation project for the tourists “Know Moscow”.

The winners of the “Popular vote” became the game “Tanks Online”, the project “Fair masters” and the community of “Heroic tape”.

“Today, we estimate the penetration of broadband Internet access in the country in 55 %. It is, indeed, the explosive growth. We have got a private industry in the economy of the country”, - said at the awards ceremony the head of the Ministry of Communications of Russia Nikolai Nikiforov.

Russia, he recalled, was “number one” by the number of Internet users in Europe. “The task of the ministry is to create conditions for the further penetration of Internet access. I hope that in the next 3-5 years we will have all the conditions for that growth”, - said the Minister. All residents should have equal access to the Internet, even in the smallest towns, said Nikiforov.
