The museum’s studio of the Irkutsk Regional Museum on November 21, 2013 hosts “Irkutsk sport. Century-long reporting” dedicated to the Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014.
The exhibition features more than 60 photographs from the museum’s archives and from Irkutsk photographers since the beginning of the XX century to the present. Photographic works belong to the genre of sports reporting and illustrate the history of the Irkutsk sport over the 20 - early 21st century.
The photographs depict massive health sports events of the first half of the 20th century: the ski run of Irkutsk Nizhneudinsk in 1925, the trade union sports day in 1935, a bike ride from Irkutsk to Krasnoyarsk in 1934.
The post-war pictures tell about the formation and development of professional sports in the Angara: great hockey in Irkutsk, competitions in winter sports, friendly meeting in hockey “Locomotive” - Finland of 1972, World Table Tennis Championships in 1987 and the other photographs.
The photo gallery is ended with sports coverage of the international competition of the late 90’s – 2000’s: International Boxing Tournament in 1998, the matches “Baikal-Energy” in hockey, an international tournament “Memorial of Irkutsk athletes”, the 24-hour marathon of martial arts and other sporting events in the Irkutsk region.
