Digital Libraries: The Governor’s Digital Library to be presented at the Russian Geographical Society
November 13, 2013 at the Moscow headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society will be presented the Governor’s digital library.
The Governor’s Digital Library - an archive resource of northern Russia as a whole and on the Yamal Peninsula in particular. At this stage, the archive includes over 150,000 pages (500 publications) and contains a fantastic amount of information stored in paper (analog) form in different geographical locations in Russia.
The creation of the resource base of the Governor’s Digital Library was attended by eminent libraries of Russia: the V. G. Belinsky Sverdlovsk Regional Universal Scientific Library, the district library of Ugra, the Research Library at the I. S. Shemanovsky Museum and Exhibition Complex, the D. I. Mendeleev Tyumen Regional Scientific Library and the University of Kazan. Thanks to this initiative to a wide range of readers have become available rare books on history, geography, ethnography, and economy of the region.
The electronic resource in June of this year was presented at the Presidential Library. The events caused a significant public outcry prompting stacks to be more involved in digitization of books and include them in the electronic collection.
