President of Russia: Vladimir Putin pointed out the connecting role of the Russian language and people in the history of Russia

5 November 2013

The Russian people and Russian language have always played a huge connecting role in the thousand-year Russian history. That Russian language was the main spokesman and the carrier of national unity, it bound the large Russian world that extends far beyond the borders of our country. Russian world has never been built on the principle of national, ethnic exclusivity, it has always been open to those who feel themselves part of Russia and considers Russia as their homeland.

This was stated by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin November 4, 2013 at a reception in honor of the National Unity Day in the Kremlin.

"Today we pay tribute to those who saved Russia at the time, who greatly sympathized with it, was devoted to the Fatherland and took responsibility for its destiny: spiritual leaders and public figures, people of different classes, nationalities and religions. Our people opposed their unity, the greatest insight and understanding of the highest civil and patriotic duty to anarchy and turmoil. Sense of cohesion, solidarity became a reliable support to the Russian state. The indissoluble unity of the people has repeatedly helped Russia to defend its freedom and national independence, to overcome the hard times, to achieve the truly global triumphs," said the head of state in his speech.

According to him, "today too, the consolidation of society in order to achieve certain goals is the most important condition for us to move forward, it gives us the confidence and strength on this path of development."

"Traditionally, the reception in honor of the National Unity Day here is attended by our compatriots from abroad, said Vladimir Putin. - I would like to sincerely thank you for the strengthening of multilateral relations with your historical homeland, for the distribution of Russian culture, for the attention you are paying to the preservation and development of the Russian language. It is very important that it sounded beyond the borders of Russia that our children and grandchildren loved it, understood its richness and greatness, its importance for strengthening cooperation between peoples."

The speech by the leader of the country is reflected in the development of the Presidential Library too, where continues the thematic Year of Russian Language which succeeded the Year of Russian people.
