History and culture: Exhibition “Art of pastel. From the collections of graphics of the VIII – early XX centuries” as part of the program “The State Tretyakov Gallery opens its stores” in Moscow

December 19, 2013 in Moscow in the framework of the program "The State Tretyakov Gallery opens its stores" started working the exhibition "Art of pastel. From the collections of graphics of the XVIII - early of the XX century".

A traditional changing exposition from the collections of graphics this time reconstructs the aroused great interest among the public exhibition in 2004, dedicated to the art of pastels, the most fragile and exquisite of graphic techniques.

Combining the capabilities of painting and drawing, pastel differs with soft velvety surface, the color of wealth. The collection contains about 800 Gallery pastels, some of which were purchased by P. M. Tretyakov.

The exposition includes about 150 sheets, executed by A. Venezianov, M. Vrubel, O. Kiprensky, I. Levitan, V. Serov and other artists. The exhibition demonstrates rich possibilities of pastel techniques and ways of its development in the Russian art from the onset in the XVIII century heyday in the early XX century.
