Exhibitions: The II Photo Biennale of the historical and archival photographs from Russian museums and archives in Saint-Petersburg

December 18, 2013 in the Marble Palace (Saint-Petersburg) is opening the II Photo Biennale of historical and archival photographs from Russian museums and archives.

The exhibition presents the historical and archival photos of the mid XIX - early XX centuries in a wide thematic range and diversity of artistic and technical features. The most valuable quality images in the exhibition - expressiveness, documentary fixation of real events and diverse cultural expressions.

The II Photo Biennale of historical and archival photographs - is extremely diverse in composition and saturation panorama of Russia in the second half of the XIX - the mid XX century. Here the documentary footage of unknown photographers work is side by side with the largest Russian masters of photography, together recreating the cultural, economic, political image of the country.

The exposition not simply introduces the extremely interesting and rich photo images from collections of Russian museums and archives, but also introduces the documents in the scientific revolution, raises questions related to the attribution of works, study the history of photography, printing techniques and methods, as well as enriches the idea of ​​Russian museums and archives in general and their photo storages in particular.
