History of Russia: Exhibition “Victory Christmas Tree” in Moscow

December 12, 2013 at the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow, is held the exhibition "Victory Christmas Tree". This exhibition has already become traditional.

The exhibition presents unique items from personal collections, family archives, Christmas toys and Christmas decorations of the war years, envelopes and letters from the front, greeting cards, invitations and children's books, as well as everyday objects of the 1940s and other artifacts from the museum.

The work on the production of Christmas decorations continued during the war. The main topic was the war. For example, out of cardboard and foil were manufactured planes and tanks, the glass bulb could turn into a star - tip for the Christmas tree. As colorful balloons were used colored light bulbs without the cap sleeves of ammunition, medical cotton wool instead of artificial snow. Christmas trees were decorated with toys in the form of artificial fruits, nuts, vegetables and berries. Fairy-tale characters of the New Year - Santa Claus and Snow Maiden, were fashioned by soldiers out of snow. On Christmas card Santa Claus played the role of a soldier of the Red Army guerrilla beating the enemy.
