5 December 2013

The Peter and Paul Fortress (Saint-Petersburg) hosts a photo exhibition of portraits of the Heroes of the Soviet Union and the Heroes of the Russian Federation.

The exhibition is timed to the celebration of the Days of Heroes of the Fatherland which is celebrated on December 9. In this day is taking place the honoring of the heroes of the Soviet Union, the heroes of the Russian Federation, Cavaliers of the Order of Glory and Cavaliers of St. George.

The exhibition features about 30 photo copies of portraits of the Heroes of the Soviet Union and the heroes of the Russian Federation. A number of paintings was created in 1956, another – in 2012. Many portraits had to be written by surviving black-and-white photographs of the time of the war: the defenders of the Fatherland are depicted in military uniform with a full set of their military awards.
