History and culture: Exhibition of engravings of the XVI-XVII centuries “Engraving. The imprints of the past” in Moscow

December 3, 2013 in the premises of the Center of Art “Volkhonka-Grand” in Moscow opens the exhibition of engravings of the XVI-XVII centuries “Engraving. The imprints of the past”.

This rare exhibition, provided by a private collector, is exhibited for the first time. It can be found with more than 40 prints, dated XVI-XVII centuries. – The era of heyday of the engraving as an art form.

The Renaissance marked the beginning of a new stage in world culture - stage realism. This stage is marked not only by new artistic features, but also new technical possibilities. Originating as a craft, engraving grows into an independent art direction.

Presented at the exhibition engravings, like most works of art of the time, are devoted to Bible stories, and some of them - landscape and genre painting.

Importantly, many of the papers are the first prints or imprints of the "first state". These are - magnificent examples of the engraving art created from paintings of famous artists.

Many engraving masterpieces which visitors will see at the new exposition "Volhonka Grand" are created during the life of the artists, they have copyrights signatures, and, according to curators of the project can be a decoration for any museum collection.
