Russian culture abroad: Days of Russian Culture held in Brazil

From November 29 to December 1, 2013 in Sao Paulo are held the Days of Russian Culture to mark the 185th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Brazil. The event is organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

As part of the Days of Russian Culture in Brazil were held a gala concert of the leading Russian ballet, instrumental ensemble performances "Grad Quartet" and was opened a photo exhibition "Protected Russia", which is housed at the Museum of Image and Sound in Sao Paulo.

In the past few years, the relationship between Russia and Brazil is developing particularly rapidly. In 2008, there was a great success of Days of Russia, and two years later the two countries celebrated the 10th anniversary of the ballet school of the Bolshoi Theatre, initiated by the Russian side in the city of Joinville. In 2010, in Rio de Janeiro took place a unique exhibition of maps, documents, drawings and watercolors, dedicated to scientific expedition to Brazil Count Grigory Langsdorf (1821-1829). In 2011 - the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro hosted the Scientific and Practical Conference "Cultural Bridges: Brazil - Russia", at which were discussed the history of Russian-Brazilian cultural ties. One of the highlights of the cultural life of Brazil in recent years were the performances of the Kirov Ballet, concerts of the St. Petersburg State Academic Symphony Orchestra, as well as the exhibition "Russian Orthodox icons", held at the Academy of Philosophy (Rio de Janeiro).

In the coming years, Russia and Brazil are planning to hold cross-cultural days. This was announced by Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov.
