Memorable dates of Russia: All-Russian contests of children’s drawing and school essays dedicated to the 700th anniversary of St. Sergius of Radonezh to be held in schools of Russia

The All-Russian contests of children’s drawing and school essays dedicated to the Great Russian Saint Sergius of Radonezh will be held in schools of Russia. They are timed to the 700th anniversary of his birth. Celebrations of this date were opened by the XXII International Christmas Readings.

“Contests of children’s drawing “The image of St. Sergius of Radonezh” and school essays “St. Sergius of Radonezh – Abbot of Russian land” will be held in conjunctions with the Ministry of Education and Church organizations”, - said the Minister of Education Dmitry Livanov at the opening of the International Christmas Readings.

According to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, the contest will include two areas – artistic and literary.

To celebrate the 700th anniversary of the birth of the Reverend, numerous activities to commemorate the “abbot of all Russia” and the Inspirer of the liberation of Rus’ from the Golden Orde century-old yoke are prepared. The program of celebration includes the opening of monuments in Moscow and abroad, the international conferences, dedicated to St. Sergius.
