History of Saint-Petersburg: Internet project “Leningrad under siege” is to be launched in Saint-Petersburg

17 January 2014

Archives Committee of Saint-Petersburg is preparing an electronic project "Leningrad under siege".

The project involves the posting on the portal "Archives of St. Petersburg" of a virtual exhibition of archival documents on the history of Leningrad during the siege. The project is a revision of the eponymous collection of documents prepared by the Archives Committee in 1995.

On the Internet will be placed more than 300 images scanned in high quality archival documents. This portal will allow users not only see the contents of the documents, but also to consider their exterior features (paper, font, style, design, signatures of the leaders). The documents will be merged into 10 chapters telling about various aspects of life besieged Leningrad (urban governance, the work of industry and everyday life of citizens, culture, science, the consequences of the blockade, etc.). Each section is provided with explanatory comments of experts.

A virtual exhibition will be available on spbarchives.ru from January 31, 2014.
