Russian museums: The construction of the second phase of the Museum of the History of Cosmonautics in Kaluga

The second phase the of construction of the K. E. Tsiolkovsky State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics in Kaluga involves the construction of a new modern building with an area of 12.5 thousand square meters, which is almost four times the size of the existing one, exhibition areas will be increased fivefold. The new building forms a single ensemble with the current museum preserving the dominant position of the composition, which now includes the museum building, rocket launch pad "East" and direct relief. The underpass will link the buildings.  

A new modern three structure construction made of glass and metal height 20.5 meters will be "inscribed" in the slope of coastline with difficult terrain. The project envisages operated roof (2.5 thousand square meters), which is located on the dome of the solar observatory, ground solar panels, skylights to illuminate the premises of the upper level, as well as landscaped area for museum visitors and townspeople. From the roof and the outdoor on the main facade there is a beautiful view of Yachenskoe reservoir.

The new building will house the exhibits, which are still in storage. Special interactive areas will be created for visitors: 3D-movie Theater, interactive theater - class scientific adventure complex "Cosmic Voyage" with simulated effects of space flight, the observatory hall of space simulators. Guests can visit the "Cosmic Cafe" with the corresponding menu. The updated Space Museum will have a full storage facility, which is designed with the most modern requirements and storage technology exhibits.

The updated Museum will be open on the eve of its 50th anniversary.
