History of Russia: Exhibition, telling of the development of telephone communication, presented in Volgograd

February 27, 2014 in the M. Gorky Volgograd Regional Universal Scientific Library opens the exhibition “Telephone in the history of Tsaritsyn-Stalingrad-Volgograd”.

The exposition features archival documents, photo materials, fragments of periodicals and exhibits. The exhibition “Telephone in the history of Tsaritsyn-Stalingrad-Volgograd” will allow traveling in time, to learn about the stages of the development of telecommunication, to learn how to prepare telegraph in Tsaritsyn and see the first Tsaritsyn instructions of “the use of the telephone”.

Black and white photographs, presented at the exhibition, reflect the time of changes and technology. Interiors of call centers, commutator shops, repair service, post office and faces of telephone operators, workers of repair services allow us representing the everyday work of the Soviet era. The exhibition also features a small exhibition of handsets, which witnessed the era of the late XX and early XXI centuries.

When creating the exhibition there were used materials from the collection of the State Archive of the Volgograd region, JSC “Rostelecom”, the M. Gorky VOUNB, the information portal Царицын.рф. There were used exhibits from the Museum of History and amateur communications of Tsaritsyn-Stalingrad-Volgograd, the Library-Information Center of the city of Frolovo, as well as private collections.
