
Exhibitions: Surreal works by famous artists of the XX century presented in Moscow
February 18, 2014 at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow) opens the exhibition «Surrealism and the livre d'artiste».
For the first time in the Department of Private Collections of the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts so extensively are shown surreal works of famous artists of the XX century: Jean Arp, Enrico Bai, Hans Bellmer, Victor Brauner, Salvador Dali, Oscar Dominguez, Giorgio de Chirico, Wifredo Lam, André Masson, Roberto Matta, Joan Miro, Pablo Picasso, Yves Tanguy, Dorothea Tanning, Leonor Fini, Max Ernst.
Created in the genre of «artist's book» - livre d'artiste from 1924 to 1980, they will allow tracing the history of formation and development of Surrealism as an art movement as a special direction in the art of the XX century.
The exhibition will feature more than 400 graphic works from 60 major publications. The real surprise for the audience would be anti-war work of Pablo Picasso, Sueño y mentira de Franco, made in 1937.
The exhibition in the Department of Private Collections allows the Russian audience not only to continue the acquaintance with the livre d'artiste, but also to discover a new page in the history of surrealism, an interesting phenomenon in the art of the XX century.
