Society and book culture: Exhibition of illustrations to the English children’s literature opened in Moscow

As part of the Year of Russian Culture in the UK and the Year of British culture in Russia at the Center for Aesthetic Education "Museion" of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow) from February 11, 2014 is presented an exhibition of book graphics "Vacation of Common Sense", prepared by the publishing house "Vita Nova" (St. Petersburg).

The exhibition features 21 etchings - original graphic suite created by Yuri Vashenko based on two works of Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass". Over this cycle of illustrations the master has worked for over 40 years and received a prestigious international award - the Gold Medal in the International Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava (1987).

In addition, the exhibition presents new works by Yuri Vashenko started on fairy tales by Charles Dickens, Edward Lear, George MacDonald, James Matthew Barrie, which were first published in the book "Tales of Victorian England".

Surprise for visitors of the exhibition will be illustrations by Yuri Vashenko to Lewis Carroll "History with knots", the collection of logical paradoxes and puzzles. This series is based on the best illustrations of the artist to the legendary tales.
