History and culture: Letters by Turgenev to enrich exposition of the Museum-Reserve “Spasskoe-Lutovinovo”

6 February 2014

The collection of the I. S. Turgenev Museum-Reserve "Spasskoe-Lutovinovo" (the Orel region) will soon be enriched with seven letters of a classic. The exhibits are so valuable that will be exhibited in the windows as copies and the originals can be seen only once in five years - during the anniversary celebrations.

New letters were acquired in the end of the last year. Five of them are addressed to Princess Anne Troubetzkaya, one - Guy de Maupassant and another - an unidentified person. They are all written in French, and only three of them were published in Russian. Letters to Maupassant and an unidentified person were previously unknown, they do not appear in the registers of letters by Turgenev neither in Russia, nor in France. That is why they are of special interest.
