Internet and society: Domain .RUS successfully tested

International Corporation ICANN, which manages the Internet address space, has completed testing of a new Cyrillic domain .RUS. All technical tests are completed successfully, and the delegation should happen soon.

"Delegation means that the new domain .RUS will appear in the root system of Internet domain names and will be fully ready to go", - said the company "Russian names", which is the domain administrator. Then in the domain zone .RUS will start the name registration, running new sites, and it becomes a full segment of the Internet. New Internet Zone aims to "unite the world Russian-speaking community, to support the dissemination and popularization of the Russian language and culture".

The registration in a new domain zone will be open. To register domain name .RUS is possible for any Internet user irrespective of their nationality or location.

It is expected that the domain will be delegated within a month. Priority check-in domain .RUS starts in early April this year.
