World history: Exhibition of unique documents to the 100th anniversary of the First World War in Moscow

The State Museum – the N. A. Ostrovsky Humanitarian Center "Overcoming" in conjunction with the K. G. Paustovsky Moscow Literary Museum-Center, the S. A. Yesenin Moscow State Museum, the A. N. Scriabin Moscow Memorial Museum and the Russian Red Cross presents the exhibition "Man on the field of death" to the 100th anniversary of the First World War.

The exhibition tells the story of how the depth of the war tragedy touched such outstanding personalities as the greatest master of words, writer and deep lyricist K. G. Paustovsky, eminent poet S. A. Yesenin, humanist writer, who became a symbol of the courage and the Overcoming for many people in different parts of the globe N. A. Ostrovsky, composer A. N. Scriabin.

The K. G. Paustovky Moscow Literary Museum-Center is exhibiting letters and photographs of the writer, his letters to brothers, fragments of frontline diaries, handwritten lines of verse and notes.

Unique documents from the collections of the N. A. Ostrovsky Museum-Center "Overcoming" are also presented. The current 2014 – is the year of the 110th anniversary of N. A. Ostrovsky.

The exhibition contains materials of Moscow museums, bearing names of the poet S. A. Yesenin and the composer A. N. Scriabin.

A special place at the exhibition is occupied by the materials, presented by the Russian Red Cross - photos of the Great War, objects and documents. The Russian Red Cross Society (ROKK) throughout its pre-revolutionary history prominently in the public life of the Russian Empire. One of the main components of activity ROKK has always been helping the victims of the hostilities. By the end of 1914 in the First World were employed more than 300 medical institutions ROKK, and by the beginning of 1915 - twice. The Red Cross was also responsible for the supply of aid to refugees institutions, engaged in streamlining their movement.

The exhibition runs from March 14 to May 1, 2014.
