Society and reading: Round table “Book and reading in the cultural space of Russia” at the State Duma

March 13, 2014 the Committee on Culture of the State Duma of the Federal Council of the Russian Federation together with the Russian Book Union and the Russian Library Association will hold a round table "Book and reading in the cultural space of Russia".

The round table is attended by the deputies of the State Duma, representatives of the Ministry of Culture of Russia, the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications, as well as the book industry - publishers, book trade network managers, librarians, writers, representatives of educational institutions and cultural institutions.

At the roundtable will be supposed to discuss issues of the development of literature and reading in the cultural space of the country; to assess the availability of infrastructure for the Russians read (number of objects booksellers, libraries and other cultural venues, providing access to books, online resources, etc.). An important task of the round table - development system to the strengthening of the role of books in the education of the younger generation, infrastructure development and reading books in Russian, increase the availability of books in Russian regions and interest in reading, improve the general cultural level of the country.
