World history: Exhibition “Golden Horde antiquities. Forgotten City of Azak” in Kazan
March 7, 2014 at the Museum of statehood of the Tatar people and the Republic of Tatarstan (Kazan) opens the exhibition "Golden Horde antiquities. Forgotten City of Azak" dedicated to the rich material culture of the era of the Golden Horde.
Unique archaeological items which are known everywhere in the world, arrived in Kazan from Azov – the medieval Golden Horde Azak, one of the most ancient settlements in the south of Russia, a city with a rich history, the intersection of eras and cultures. The Azov historical and archaeological and paleontological museum holds one of the richest collections of the Golden finds, among which we can safely allocate the Golden variety of dishes. Today we can say without exaggeration that the Golden collection of dishes, which is located at the Azov Museum, is the most significant not only within Russia and the CIS, but also throughout the world, and some specimens are considered to be unique in its kind. A part of this vast collection among the first outside Azov will be available to Kazan residents and guests of the city.
The idea of this exhibition was dictated by long common historical past and close cultural relationships of the Volga and Black Sea regions.
The exhibition is timed to the assignment to Kazan in 2014 of the status of cultural capital of Turkic world – according to the decision taken by the International organization of Turkic culture (TURKSOY) in 2012.
