March 6, 2014 in the Korff Hall of the National Library of Russia (Saint-Petersburg) opens a unique exhibition “Heritage of the Russian emigration: editions, granted from the Alexander Solzhenitsyn House of Russian Abroad”.
958 rare editions were donated to the National Library of Russia by the Alexander Solzhenitsyn House of Russian Abroad (Moscow). Such editions were released in small circulation and today present a rarity. The exhibition will feature a part of donated books: about 400 books and 30 journals.
The editions were published abroad in the most dramatic years of Russian history. Their return to their Homeland – is a momentous event for the promotion of books on the history and culture of Russia.
Books and magazine articles talk about the Romanov dynasty, the First World War, the revolutionary events of 1917, the Civil, Finnish, the Great Patriotic Wars, the human rights movement of the 1970s and 1980s. A number of publications are devoted to the history of the Russian Church and Russian philosophy. A special place is occupied by the exhibition works on the history of literature, art works of Russian writers, as well as issues of periodicals "Our news", "Illustrated Russia", "Sea Notes", "Sea Magazine", "Foreign Rus’", " Logbook " and others.
A significant contribution in the creation of a special center of the study and preservation of the emigration heritage – the House of Russian Abroad was made by the great Russia writer Alexander Isaevich Solzhenitsyn, who started working on the search and rescue of document on 1974, being in exile.
The exhibition will run till March 31.
