History of Russia: “Two centuries of the Russian Imperial Guards” Exhibition in Novgorod

April 14, 2014, the Museum Reserve "Novgorod Kremlin" opens the exhibition "Two Centuries of the Russian Imperial Guards." The exhibition features paintings, lithographs, sculptures and decorative arts, uniforms, uniform items, equipment and weapons of the Guards units in the 18th - early 20th centuries from the collection of The State Memorial Museum of Alexander Suvorov (St. Petersburg) and Novgorod Museum Reserve.

History of the Russian Imperial Guards has more than two hundred years. Originating as the Toy Army of Peter the Great, it eventually became one of the most combat-capable components of the entire Russian army.

Officers of the Russian Imperial Guards were elite not only in the army, but in the whole Russian society. Many of them showed themselves in various fields - art, science, social and public activities.

History of the Novgorod land is associated with Russian Guards. At various times in the Novgorod province lodged the Lifeguards regiments: Dragoon, Ulan of His Majesty, Grodno Hussars, Battery Guard Horse Artillery. Life Guards Dragoon Regiment, formed in 1814 in Versailles, near Paris, spent on the Novgorod land 88 of 103 years of its history. The year of 2014 marks the 200th anniversary of its foundation.

The exhibition will run until July 6, 2014.
