Regions of Russia: Tambov started marathon museum

Within the framework of Year of Culture the Regional Department of Culture and Archives has launched in Tambov a new project. "Region 68 - Museum.ru..." museum marathon will go in the region for six years.

In recent years the museum business in the area has significantly changed. The between-museums exhibit space in region has increased, and the state regional museums have got actively involved into collaboration with the museums of federal and regional subjection. Overall, Tambov Region today is a home for more than 120 museums with main joint reserve counting more than 221 thousand items.

This year, called in our country the Year of Culture, the main exposition site of Tambov - the Museum of Regional Studies, will turn 135 years since its foundation. Especially for this event is decided to launch an unusual local lore marathon in Tambov. The organizers are assured - the history curators from the different parts of Tambov Region have something to share and to attract an audience.

The program is meant for six year long marathon, during which each municipal museum in the area in association with departmental and school museums and with private collections within three months, on-site of the Museum of Regional Studies will hold an exhibition, revealing the historical and cultural traditions of cities and regions. 23 districts of Tambov Region will join the marathon. Tambov residents will get a chance to become familiar with a variety of collections gathered in smaller museums of the region. The marathon main slogan is: "Let’s keep and study the history of Native Land!"

 иMuseums’ marathon started with "Kotowsk is Hundred Years of Age" exhibition organized basing the resources of the Kotowsk Сity Historical-Museum and Educational Complex. This summer the baton will be handed to Staroyurevsky District Museum.
