Society and culture: “Artist Feodor Fedorovsky. Legend of the Bolshoi Theatre” Exhibition in Moscow

April 9, 2014 at the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow) opens the exhibition "Artist Feodor Fedorovsky (1883-1955). Legend of the Bolshoi Theater."

The name of Feodor Fedorovsky represents a whole epoch in the history of the Bolshoi Theater. During his life, Fedorovskiy enjoyed the fame rare for a theater artist, but in recent decades he is known only to specialists. Tretyakov Gallery presents the first monographic exhibition of the master in conjunction with the Museum of the Bolshoi Theater and A. A. Bakhrushin Theater Museum.

The purpose of the exhibition is to introduce to visitors the best samples of theater and decorative art of the first half of the 20th century by the legendary artist of the Bolshoi Theater.

The exhibition features more than 150 works of F. F. Fedorovsky: sketches of scenery, costumes and makeup; authentic costumes and a mock of the curtain of the Bolshoi Theatre made in accordance with the artist’s drawings.

Variety of genres will allow the viewer to imagine the drama of plays, where musical images were accompanied with illustrations, active and harmonious, with impeccable artistic taste. Organization of the exposition is subject to the same purpose: construction of the stage area with a podium and scenes, likening of the upper parapet exhibition halls to theater box, as well as the use of ocher in walls paint and crimson fabrics with velvet effect. Such exposure solution recreates the atmosphere of the Bolshoi Theater, allowing fully relive the emotions inherent in the works by Fedorovsky.
