The Presidential Library: New acquisitions
The Presidential Library collection has been enriched with materials provided by the State Public Historical Library.
New acquisitions include the publication on the life and reign of Emperor Alexander I and the events of the Patriotic War of 1812.
The book by A. I. Sokolova Northern Sphinx: historical sketch (St. Petersburg, 1912) gives an idea of the era of Alexander I, as well as the personality and work of Alexander Pavlovich as Emperor and Autocrat of All-Russia and as an ordinary person, a family man and a citizen of his country.
"The march of the August Emperor Alexander I in Germany and France and famous exploits of his allies, describing all major accidents and memorable change: collected from reliable sources" (Moscow, 1814-1815) contains numerous documents and materials related to the foreign campaigns of the Russian army in 1813-1814 and the activities of the Emperor Alexander I at this time. In the first part of this document is described the release of Prussia in January-April 1813, the battles in Saxony in May 1813 and an armistice between Russia, Prussia, Sweden, England and Austria in June-August 1813. In the second part of the book is presented data on the number of troops of the Allied Powers after the ceasefire and troop of Napoleon. It is described the liberation of Germany in August-December 1813, the battle of Dresden. Part three focuses on the Battle of Leipzig ("Battle of Nations") in October-December 1813 and taking Russian - Prussian army city of Danzig. The fourth part describes the first battle in France in early 1814, about the Allied victory at Brienne, of the battle of Laon and Reims taking. The fifth part covers the situation in Europe after the Treaty of Paris 18 (30) May 1814, as well as the very conditions of the treaty. Besides manifests of heads of the allied powers, is represented the French Constitution of Louis XVIII.
The publication Reports from Bavarian Charge d'Affaires (Olry) in the first years of his reign (1802-1806) of Emperor Alexander I (Pg. 1917) collects valuable information for one foreigner his Government about coming to the throne of emperor Alexander I, the Russian court, Russian government and the situation in the country in the first period after the tragic death of Paul I. In the book is placed a preface of Grand Duke Nikolai Mikhailovich.
"Selected features of memorable sayings and anecdotes of August Emperor Alexander I, the peacemaker of Europe". Part 2, Part 3 (M., 1827). In the second part of this document is described the interesting and unusual cases of an emperor associated with a visit to Europe and Russia travel. Also in the book is published a manifesto of the coronation of Alexander I, the beginning and the end of Patriotic War of 1812, the proclamation of the Emperor on the day of the entry of allied troops into Paris. The third part contains speeches and poems dedicated to the memory of Emperor Alexander I.
