History of Russia abroad: The exhibition “Russian Word and Image: 400 years of Book and Art” in the American Museum of the Russian History Foundation

Famous Museum of the Russian History Foundation, located on the territory of the spiritual center of emigration in the Holy trinity Monastery in Georgenville, for the first time opened its doors to the public. Here opened an exhibition “Russian Word and Image: 400 years in Book and Art”.

The debut exhibition features exhibits, many of which are truly unique. For example, the Altar Gospel in Church Slavonic, published in Vilnius in 1575 by one of the first Russian printers – Peter Mstislavets. Visitors will also see rarities, once stored in the Pochaevskaya Lavra.

“We represent Russian culture on the example of book art”, - said Director of the foundation Archpriest Vladimir Tzurikov. However, there are many other exhibits. In particular, the standard of the Imperial convoy of the XIX century. In addition, it is exhibited the Code of tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, various manuscript collections, Coronation collections  of Alexander III and Nicholas II. The public will also see various household items, used by the royal personages – for example, crystal glasses of Elizabeth and Catherine II, each of which has a monogram of empresses.

The exhibition is timed to the opening of the reading room of the Russian Aristocratic Society. Its representatives, according to Father Vladimir, “donated foundation =the library and archive, which consist of rare book editions and unique documents”.
