World Libraries: Moscow hosts the meeting of the Foundation Conference of European National Libraries (CENL)

May 26-27, 2014 in Moscow is held the 28th Foundation Conference of European National Libraries (CENL), which brought together influential leaders of the largest libraries of the Old World. Professionals should take annual report for 2013, to discuss current joint projects, the conservation of European national cultural heritage. The conference is opened on May 26 by Minister of Culture of Russia Vladimir Medinsky.

"We are all aware that an integral part of the modern era of world civilization is the development of electronic technologies that are deeply penetrated and librarianship. In many European countries, national, scientific and many other libraries have reached a high level in providing users of electronic resources to enable more efficient use of all that cultural and intellectual wealth, which is available in European countries", - told Vladimir Medinsky.

Minister of Culture noted the achievements of CENL - in particular, the creation of the portal "The European Library". It provides researchers with the opportunity to free search databases of leading national and research libraries in Europe. He informed members of CENL, that the development of the library system in Russia in recent years has become an important element of government policy since 2012, according to the Decree of the President of Russia, annually in the National Electronic Library is included not less than 10% of published in the Russian Federation titles of books.

Vladimir Medinsky added that the Russian Federation is interested in close and constructive cooperation with the Board of Directors of European National Libraries.
